About

Vivienne Walkington

I can remember being given a box of crayons when I was a child which awakened my creativity. I just loved making marks with them, particularly on my bedroom walls, for which I was in constant trouble. Soon however I understood that there was paper to use, and peace was restored. Fond memories linger of field trips taken with my dad and brother, we would set off for the day with sketchbooks, pencils, jam jar, and butterfly net, where, if we were lucky, specimens could be watched and recorded for later use.

Formally I was a Graphic Designer and Art Director but after a diagnosis of an autoimmune disease in 2000, I needed to slow down, so I turned my attention to brushes and paint, pen and pencils.

I love nature, it brings me the daily inspiration I need to be creative. All the colours and shapes have a story to tell and a song they sing, which I endeavour to depict in my paintings. I paint with watercolour, gouache, acrylic, ink, and crayon. I enjoy being experimental, and am constantly exploring new techniques and possibilities.

Nearly every day I am to be found painting in my garden studio, I teach occasionally, as I enjoy seeing others grow their creative endeavours.
